Welcome Dr. Layton Mikkalson

The Dental Specialists is excited to welcome new endodontist, Layton Mikkalson! Dr. Mikkalson is practicing at our Plymouth location.

Dr. Mikkalson earned his Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences in 2016 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2020, he graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Most recently, he obtained his Masters in Endodontics from Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Mikkalson is a part of a few dental associations, including the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.

"After serving four years as a general dentist in the United States Navy, I pursued specialty training in endodontics because I was drawn to both the complexity of the field and the ability to make an immediate difference for patients in pain," said Dr. Mikkalson. Endodontic procedures such as root canal treatment, retreatment, and apical surgery allow endodontists to save teeth that in previous years may have been considered hopeless. Dr. Mikkalson finds it incredibly rewarding to help patients preserve their natural teeth and restore comfort and function, and he considers it an honor to serve them in that role.

Outside of dentistry, he enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, golfing poorly, and walking with his wife and their dog, Scotty. He values staying active, spending time with family and friends, and maintaining balance outside of work.
